OSEC® produces sodium hypochlorite solution, reliably, automatically, safely, economically, when required, from salt solution, soft water and electricity.
Salt + Water + Electricity ------= NaOCl + H2
Why would I want it?

Chemical disinfection: The choices
Option 1 : Delivered chemicals
- Elemental chlorine
- Sodium hypochlorite (12-15%)
- Calcium hypochlorite (powder)
Option 2: On-site generation
- Electrochlorination
- Ozone
- Chlorine dioxide

Calcium Hypochlorite Ca(ClO)2
- very expensive chemical
- more and more difficult to get delivered in time
- long storage and then depleting of Cl2 and increase of by-product
- dangerous to handle
- blocking all pipes and pumps
- chlorine % depleting with transport and time
- normally used for very small plants

Hypo decay & NaClO3 (sodium chlorate) formation:
- Depends on pH, temperature, initial concentration, and light intensity
- In 15% hypo, 0.6% of available Cl2 will convert to chlorate in first 24 hours after production.
- In 15% hypo, chlorate levels increase by over 300% after 60 days.
- In 0.8% hypo the conversion to chlorate is not detectable in the first 24 hours.
- OSEC® hypo is prepared & consumed with 24 hours.

Why brine electrochlorination?
- Identical proven disinfection chemistry to gaseous Cl2 – commercial hypochlorite but at lower running costs
- Avoids the safety issues and costs of chlorine gas
- Avoids the decay & by-product problems of commercial sodium hypochlorite
- Avoids the handling & shipping issues of calcium hypochlorite
- Very low hazard 0.8% sodium hypochlorite product
- Not reliant on specialist chemical suppliers
- Only chemical bulk stored on-site is salt
- Low total life cost & production cost per kg of chlorine
